Your Thursday Theater
Perhaps you will agree with me, and perhaps you will not, but I think that movies have the potential to be a perfect melding of entertainment and art, and that they do occasionally live up to that potential.
In the cinema, theatre’s totality of sensory experience meets literature’s permanence (with some complications, in both cases). Although I have never formally studied film, I have watched a truly staggering amount of movies in my life, and many of the skills and terms from my background in literary studies provide me with the necessary tools for the conversation.
This series consists of movie reviews and analyses, with no exclusions on genre, era, or country of origin. For as long as I can, I will continue to enjoy authentic, well-made movies and be over-critical toward mediocre movies, and I hope you will join me.
